A Study in Detail: Showing "Intricacy" at The Lab on Santa Fe

I am thrilled to announce that I have four pieces currently hanging at The Lab on Santa Fe as part of their latest curated exhibition, "INTRICACY." This show brings together a group of artists whose work demands a closer look. For this particular exhibit, I wanted to showcase the breadth of my portfolio, so I’ve included three of my digital collages alongside one traditional photograph.

The Art of the Layer The theme of "Intricacy" provided the perfect opportunity to display my collage work. These pieces are built through hundreds of digital layers, fine-tuned to create a singular, surreal vision. Seeing them printed and hung alongside the work of other talented local artists like Raven Rohrig and Celeste Hodges really highlights the "intricate" conversations happening between different mediums.

By including a photograph in the mix, I’m able to show the foundation of my process—capturing a singular moment in time that serves as the building block for everything else I create.

Visit the Lab

If you are wandering through the Santa Fe Arts District, please stop by The Lab to see these four pieces in person. There is nothing like seeing the fine details of a 100MP image on a gallery wall!

  • Exhibition Dates: July 12th – August 10th.

  • Opening Reception: Friday, July 12 from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM.

  • Location: The Lab on Santa Fe, Denver, CO.

I’m incredibly proud to be a featured artist in this lineup. Thank you to Josh Berkowitz and The Lab for providing such a wonderful space for us to get a little "intricate."

Jay Cupcake

I’ve always believed that a great portrait is a collaboration, not just a click of a shutter. My name is Jay, and for over a decade, I’ve been capturing the vibrant, the surreal, and the unapologetically authentic. Recently relocated from the mountains of Colorado to the Twin Cities, I bring an editorial eye and a 'laughter-first' philosophy to every session.

My work spans the spectrum of the human experience—from photographing the Mayor of Denver for Civilian Magazine to creating high-concept digital collages featuring the icons of the drag and variety scene. Whether I’m building a complex 100-layer digital piece or capturing a clean, professional headshot, my goal is to make my subjects feel like the most powerful version of themselves. I don't just take pictures; I help personalities shine through.
